Lions support Hounds for Heroes
Maurice Allen and Susan Saunders of Adur East Lions Club embarked on a sponsored cycle ride to raise funds for Hounds for Heroes
Keen bike riders, Maurice and Susan had wanted to cycle Sustrans National Cycle Network route 2 for some time, especially as it passes within 50 yards of their home in Shoreham-by-Sea. They are relatively new Lions, 3 years’ service to date, and thought it would be good to make contact with Lions clubs along the way and ask for support. They were accommodated along the route by Lions in Dover, Bexhill on Sea and Chichester.
Maurice and Susan took a Hounds for Heroes collecting tin with them on their journey and were amazed at the generosity of the general public, with one elderly couple on Bexhill seafront donating £10. Further amounts may come in through the JustGiving page that the pair set up but to date the total collected through sponsorship, online donations, Lions donations and the collecting tin comes to over £1000.
Maurice and Susan now have the cycling bug and intend investigating the rest of the route, which continues down to St. Austell.
