Lion John Haynes
Heather
Lion John is a quiet man who gets things done and he is also a good orator and this is important, as we must have a leader who can communicate with others in order to spread the word at Club, District and Multiple District.
He has been an active Chairman of the Lord Mayor's procession and received a special letter of thanks from the head of Medic Alert for organising their float last year. He will constantly be found supporting District events such as disabled swimming, diabetic screening, District fun days and this is not a "one off" but annually!
He is my favourite type of Lion, a GOYA, "get off your a**e" and do it now - no one better and he never publicises the fact that he is doing all this. Above all, he has what every Lion needs - love - 'cos if we haven't got it, we can't give it to those who desperately need it!"
District Governor 105I
Lion Pat Connolly
Celia
Ever since Lion Pat joined Galway Lions Club two decades ago, he has been the beating heart of events such as the care of senior citizens, the annual Radio Auction on Galway Bay FM for the Christmas food appeal, the collection of food vouchers, toys for the mentally handicapped and super market cash collections. On many an occasion Lion Pat has come to the Club with news of individuals and families who he felt were in need, in each case and in his own inimitable way , he has convinced the Lions Club to help in each case. If funds were low at that time, then Lion Pat would raise them to deal with the matter on hand. He was President of Galway Lions Club in 1998 and is held in very high regard with the members. In 2000 he played a key role in helping to form the Corrib Lions Club. He has since progressed within the organisation and devotes an enormous amount of time in ensuring that Lions International is alive and well throughout the West of Ireland. Awards such as this are held to recognise the great effort put in by people for the betterment of their communities, and that is why Lion Pat Connolly is a deserved winner of a Re Hab Galway People of the year award.
