2011 Music Competition

Following our European success with violinist Sophie Rosa in 2008 and with last year’s Multiple District winner Laura Snowden coming second in Bologna, against some very stiff opposition with the Classical Guitar, the scene was set once again on the 16th April in Birmingham at the Conservatoire to find the young musician who would represent us in Maastricht, Holland, on 13th to 15th October in the European finals playing the Oboe.

This year's winner was Aisling Maguire from London sponsored by the Fairlop Lions Club of District 105A.

Second was Hannah King from 105BN and third was Rees Webster from 105C.

Aisling was presented with the Ian Jones Memorial Trophy Council Chairman Jacquie Prebble. The competition was judged byAndrew Byers, Jane Evans (chairman) and Benjamin Johnson..

Time moves exceeding fast and we are already on the look out for candidates for the 2012 competition. The instrument is the Cello and the list of music to be played is shown here. Candidates must play the ‘Imposed Piece’ and one other piece to be selected from the ‘Repertoire list’.

It would be a huge boost in this next year if we could have a candidate from all 13 Districts in the British Isles and Ireland.
