Lions Clubs Vulnerable Persons Policy

Members ofLions Clubs International are privileged to work within their local communities, assisting persons often less fortunate than themselves. Activities undertaken by Lions Club members often involve them working closely with children and vulnerable adults.

CRB Update – 27/04/2011

England and Wales – Firstly it is important to point out that until the Government's position on CRB's is clarified Lions should continue good practice in their dealings with Vulnerable people based on the existing policy which can be found below this update. Amendments are required to be made to primary legislation. This is not expected to come into force until early 2012.

The amendments are contained within the Protection of Freedoms Bill. At this time this bill is within the first committee stage in the Houses of Parliament and they have to report by 17 May 2011. The expected changes presently outlined will mean that a review of our policy will need to take place sometime in the next Lions year. For information please follow the following link;

Northern Ireland – Any change in the primary legislation may have an effect on Northern Ireland in due course. Until then please follow present policies. Scotland – Legislation went live in Scotland as from the 26th February 2011. Whilst the aims and objectives of Scottish legislation is the same, the approach taken to achieve them is different. It is very important that any member wishing to work with children or vulnerable persons within the Scottish legislative area, as a Lion, contact Lion Hugh Kershaw (or Lion Bill Fraser) beforehand. It is advisable to give Lions Hugh or Bill plenty of notice so that they can implement the required processes.

This applies, irrespective of the number of other CRB checks from other areas that a member may have.
