Environmental Photographic Competition

Font Size

In an attempt to broaden the interest in Environmental subjects, our International Headquarters introduced an Environmental Photographic Competition.

It was described as "An annual photo contest that would provide a way for Lions to portray, through an original photograph, their pride and commitment to improving, protecting and preserving an aspect of the environment in which they live".

That definition is important because participants are required to accompany their photo with a caption of up to 25 words explaining why the environment being depicted should be improved, protected or preserved.

The competition is divided into five categories, which are:

  • Landscapes (Urban or Natural)
  • Animal Life
  • Plant Life
  • Weather Phenomena
  • A Special Theme

Only one image can be selected to go forward to the International Contest. However, in order to generate more interest, I invited Districts to submit one in any, or all, of the categories. This has encouraged a much greater involvement and I am grateful to all District Environmental Officers who have encouraged their members to participate. I trust their enthusiasm will extend into the coming year. The categories will remain the same but the special theme will be announced after this years Final Competition has been judged in Bangkok, Thailand at the end of June 2008.
