Queens Diamond Jubilee Celebratons - Beacons

The Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations will take place across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth on the weekend of 2nd – 5th June 2012. There are many ways that Lions can get involved with the celebration, one of which is to take part in the lighting of beacons. The aim for the Diamond Jubilee is to light 2012 throughout the UK and Her Majesty will be lighting a National Beacon on Monday 4th June.
Lions Clubs have been involved in previous Beacon lighting events to celebrate Royal events, in fact during the queens Golden Jubilee celebrations Lions lit Beacons across the Multiple District. Those Clubs wanting to take part could use this event to raise money for causes within their Community. All the Beacon locations along with the various organisations involved will be listed in a special book that will be presented to the Queen after the event as a lasting reminder of the moment in History which we are celebrating.
The Beacons will be lit between the hours of 10pm and 10:30pm on Monday 4th June exact lighting times will be published nearer the date. Possible options may be each District organising one Beacon per District or each zone organising one Beacon each.
Some of our Clubs have already registered their interest in lighting Beacons such as the Honiton & District Lions Club who will be lighting the Beacon at the Land of Caanan, Ottery St Mary on Monday 4th June. Their Beacon has been registered with the National organiser Bruno Peek, Pagentmaster, The Diamond Jubilee Beacons on e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
