Lions Edukit Appeal

Font Size

Lions Clubs International have long sought to improve the quality of life of young people and have developed a close working relationship with UNICEF, becoming formally affiliated with them in 1994.

The British and Irish Lions Clubs are committed to supporting two UNICEF appeals - Edukits and Street Children.

Education is the foundation for human development. It is a basic human right. Yet today, nearly 93 millions children of the 700 million children of primary school age are not in school.

An Edukit is simply a school in a box. Eaxh box contains essential equipment such as pencils, exercise books, teacher's guides, posters, school bags, counting cubes, and a register. The resources can educate 40 children and the kits are individually prepared for use in specific circumstances, most often unicef patchduring times of conflict or in response to natural disasters.

Just one Edukit costs £175 and provides enough learning materials for 40 pupils.Contents now include solar / wind up radio. This additional item will enable children to keep in touch with the outside world and also acts as an invaluable teaching aid.

We need Lions Clubs across the British Isles and Ireland to continue to raise money for Edukits so that we can carry on providing essential educational supplies for the world's most vulnerable children.

Further details about the appeal can be found at www.unicef.org.uk/lions.
