LCI MD 105 and St Dunstan’s – a unique partnership

LCI MD 105 and St Dunstan’s are proud to be working together and have signed a Partnership Charter that will benefit the inclusion and increase the independence of blind and visually impaired ex-Service men and women. This partnership will work on a basis of service offering the Lions of MD 105 opportunities to volunteer their time and experience to help in the rehabilitation of our brave Service personnel.

Lion Clubs International has been committed to the elimination of preventable and reversible blindness ever since Ms Helen Keller challenged them to become “Knights of the Blind in the crusade against darkness”. Initiating sight campaigns and projects that have, across the globe, seen the sight of over 28 million people being saved or improved.

Since its establishment in 1915 St Dunstan’s has been the the only organisation specifically committed to the rehabilitation of Servicemen, both current and past who have been blinded in combat or whose sight has deteriorated over time. Currently St Dunstan’s provides lifelong commitment and services to upwards of 3000 St Dunstaners but are having to respond to increased activity arising from current conflicts around the world and increasing number of ex-Servicemen developing sight related issues as a result of the aging process.

At its Rehabilitation Centres in Ovingdean (near Brighton), Sheffield, and more recently its newly opened Centre at Craig-y-Don, Llandudno (to which LCI MD 105 donated over £100,000) young men & women from our armed forces whose sight has been damaged, as well as older beneficiaries are able to make use of the latest treatment, training and techniques to rediscover their independence and rebuild their lives.

LCI MD 105 and St Dunstan’s are proud to be working together to help blind and visually impaired veterans and their families as they have helped us.
