MD Speech and Hearing
SpeechAid
It is a small portable device produced and marketed by Lions of District 105A as a service to people who have a low volume of speech, sometimes known as "Whispered Speech" and hence require amplification to normal levels. "I kid you not when I say it was first made by a Lion in a shed in his garden and has evolved over the last 18 years to the current device", says Lion John Cheetham.
The main beneficiaries are people who have had laryngectomies, sufferers of MS, Parkinson’s disease, stroke victims and other disorders which cause "Whispering Voice".
We, the Lions market it at £80 + £3 P&P.
In 1997/8 "Which" magazine gave it their best buy!
Lions Door Hangers
One six people in the United Kingdom suffers from a loss of hearing and the situation becomes even worse as we get older. So what can be done to assist those that are unable hear or see a warning of impending danger?
Simple solutions are often the best and The Lions Hearing Trust, has been instrumental in developing a relatively cheap and easy way to indicate help is required in the event of impending danger to ensure those with hearing or other disabilities are made aware of such dangers.
In conjunction with the Lions Clubs Organisation throughout the British Isles, the Lions Hearing Trust is producing brightly coloured, laminated door-hangers for use in hotels and other similar establishments.
