57th Annual Convention: Aberdeen 25-27 April 2008
A welcome from the Lord Provost
Dear Delegates,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome the delegates of the Lions Clubs International Multiple District 105 Convention to the City of Aberdeen.
I hope you will have the opportunity to explore Aberdeen and to enjoy the beautiful countryside that surrounds it. I am sure you will be impressed with our scenery, history and culture, combined with a tradition of superb food, excellent service, quality accommodation and one of the purest environments in Scotland.
Aberdeen is a traditionally modern city famed for its granite buildings, a sparkling jewel at the heart of northeast Scotland. With its breathtaking architecture, colourful parks and gardens and a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, the city is full of welcoming charm.
On the outskirts of the city you can travel along the world's only Malt Whisky Trail, experience the sights and sounds of over 150 miles of coast on the Coastal Trail, or follow the famous Castle Trail where your imagination will be unleashed by our fine selection of castles. Here we have invigorating outdoor activities of every kind; walking, climbing, biking and fishing, not to mention world class golf on some of the finest courses.
We are certain that our beautiful countryside and friendly citizens will provide you with fond memories to Aberdeen in 2008.
Yours sincerely, Lord Provost Peter Stephen, MCIBS
The 57th Convention - with plenty of variety...
My Fellow Lions, Lionesses and Leos,
May I, on behalf of the Council of Governors, invite you all to attend the 57th Annual Convention of Multiple District 105 in Aberdeen. Being the 57th I can promise you a great deal of variety with Fun and Friendship, a Convention that you will remember with fondness and promise where you can reinvigorate yourselves and receive your annual injection of Lionistic motivation.
Please remember that it is your Convention, where you can enjoy a great weekend, renewing friendships, making new ones and where you can participate in the proceedings. For new Lions it is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow members and to learn about the programmes that Lions Clubs International is involved with. You will be treated to a number of new topics with refreshing speakers as well as thought provoking ideas that will challenge you in this year of "Challenge to Change". You will be able to meet your International President and convey to him your thoughts and ideas.
Your Convention Committee is working extremely well on all aspects of the business and social programmes and I can assure you of a very professional presentation. We must all thank the Host Committee and the Aberdeen Council for their encouragement, support and sponsorship which has been invaluable.
There is something for everyone at the MD105 Convention weekend, from superb social events like the "Black & Gold and Silver Darlin" Host Night on the Friday, the partners outings and the Banquet and Ball on the Saturday Night to the serious business sessions and exhibition stands. (I am told that the 'Black & Gold' stands for Oil and the 'Silver Darlin' is the fish caught off Aberdeen.)
Please come and make it a Convention to be proud of. Bring your kilts and enjoy the Haggis - you will be most welcome.
Your Council of Governors looks forward to welcoming you! Anita and I look forward to your support and wish you a lovely time in Scotland. God bless you all
Jeff Byers
Chairman of Council 2007-2008
